Cattle: Life On The Ranch
Locations: Our cattle are raised primarily in the Western United Sates on independent ranches that are part of a sustainable beef cooperative.
Breeds: The cattle herds include breeds such as Angus, Hereford and Shorthorns and crosses of those breeds; some have infusions of Charolais, Simmental and Tarentaise. Our ranchers choose breeds based on their natural ability to fit within an environment, whether it's high mountains or semi-arid plains.
Quality of Life: The majority of the beef we use comes from cattle that are 100% pasture-raised. This means they're free to graze on native range grasses with plenty of time to rest, ruminate and exercise.
Our beef is animal welfare certified through the third-party Global Animal Partnership. All of the beef used in our hot dogs and sausages is Step 4, meaning it is pasture centered.
Feed: To ensure consistency, cattle receive a nutritionally balanced ration of grain, alfalfa and potatoes during the last 100 days or so. The cattle are never given antibiotics, hormones or animal by-products.
Environmental Practices on the Ranch: Our cattle ranchers are respectful stewards of the land, and focused on the sustainability of their families and communities. They follow “Graze Well" principles developed by the cooperative (based on Holistic Range Management principles) that include criteria for water conservation, riparian buffers, rotational grazing management to minimize re-biting, integrated pest management and support of biological land diversity.
We use only humanely and compassionately raised hogs, cattle, turkeys and chickens.
